Biography

Mr. Mitrou has extensive experience handling high-profile litigation.  His legal skills were featured on Court TV when his victory in the Glovsky v. MBTA trial was aired in 2005.  Mr. Mitrou has handled many complex and sensitive matters involving litigation and confidential pre-litigation counseling and resolution efforts.  He defended products liability litigation arising out of the Station Nightclub fire and handled the defense of a series of traumatic brain injury and catastrophic personal injury matters. Mr. Mitrou has significant experience involving commercial disputes and all types of fire-related litigation.

Mr. Mitrou is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and in the State of New York.  Mr. Mitrou has argued before both the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and the Massachusetts Appeals Court. He also served as an Assistant District Attorney in Nassau County, New York.

Mr. Mitrou's baseball skills were featured on the big screen in Fever Pitch, a film starring Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon. Mr. Mitrou is also an avid outdoorsman and PADI-certified Rescue SCUBA diver.

Including 2011, Mr. Mitrou has been named as one of Massachusetts' Rising Stars in civil litigation in Massachusetts Super Lawyers – Rising Star Edition for five of the last six years.

  • On November 3, 2011, Attorney John Lacey was guest speaker at the Boston Bar Association's "Brown Bag Lunch" Series where he discussed pending Federal legislation in the area of data privacy and data breach notification.   • On October 26, 2011, the United States Court of Appeals For the First Circuit issued its written opinion affirming a defense verdict obtained by Robert La Hait on behalf of Stonebridge Life Insurance Company. The preceding jury trial had involved a dispute over whether the plaintiff was entitled to the death benefits payable under three accidental death policies as a result of the named insured's death. After three days of trial, including testimony by experts for each side, the jury found in favor of Stonebridge.
  • On May 10, 2011, Attorney John Lacey was a guest on Legal Talk Network's program, Lawyer2Lawyer hosted by Craig Williams and Bob Ambrogi. The Topic was the recent massive data breach at Sony Corporation.
